UK rents in July 2026: the latest official figures

Average UK private rent reached £1,393 a month in July 2026, according to the latest Office for National Statistics release. That was £50, or 3.7%, higher than a year earlier.

The national picture

Average monthly rent was £1,451 in England, £843 in Wales and £1,016 in Scotland in July 2026. The latest Northern Ireland figure was £875 in May 2026.

Growth varied by area

In England, annual rent inflation was highest in the North East at 6.3% and lowest in the South East at 2.9%. A national average does not describe the price of a particular room or local market.
