Something is broken: what to report and what happens next
A clear first report helps the right person understand the issue, assess urgency and arrange access without asking for the same details again.
Fact-checked 9 September 2026Describe the problem clearly
Say where it is, when it began, what you can see or hear and whether it is getting worse. Add a photo when it helps, but do not put yourself at risk to take one.
Flag urgent safety risks
Use the emergency contact route for immediate risks such as a suspected gas leak, fire or serious electrical danger. Follow instructions from the relevant emergency service or utility provider.
Keep the report and updates together
Save when the issue was reported, any access arrangements and each status update. Avoid guessing at a universal repair deadline because the appropriate response depends on the issue and circumstances.
